Animal Welfare

Committed to animal welfare, in Costa Brava Foods we have the AENOR CONFORM seal in ANIMAL WELFARE, based on the strict international Welfare Quality protocols.

We comply with strict international protocols. At source, we work with the farms that supply us to ensure compliance with our Technical Specifications-Live Animals. And we monitor transport conditions: capacity, hours and other indicators associated with welfare.

In our plants, we apply the standard operating procedures for Animal Welfare (PQ-BA-04) which set out the duties of the new figure of the person in charge of animal welfare and describe the various stages in which live animals are handled (Regulation (EC) 1099/2009). Our trained, qualified and committed staff who follow documented and monitored procedures.

We have appropriate facilities to ensure that animals are unloaded and taken to stabling with the strictest guarantees and respect for their welfare.

Our specialist in slaughtering and butchering, this is an innovative and continuously growing company. With our farms’ Technical Specifications-Live Animals we guarantee the control of the food supply chain in Grup Cañigueral’s products by selecting the origin, breeding and rearing conditions. The first Spanish company to be certified to export pork from white pigs to the USA, it slaughters 65,000 pigs per week and exports 70% of its production in 50 countries.

This is our specialist in fresh and frozen marinated meat, as well as in pork fat and greaves. We are suppliers of Mercadona and serve the international market. With our abattoir, used by all of Grup Cañigueral, we can guarantee maximum freshness and integrated control of the livestock farming and product preparation processes. Our marinades make the meat even more tasty, tender and juicy and give it a wide range of flavours.

This is our specialist in serrano ham, it adapts to the needs of each client. In the Pyrenean air, our master ham manufacturers work with the raw materials of Costa Brava Foods, the slaughterhouse of the Cañigueral Group that allows us to select the source of food and breeding of the animals we will use to make our products. It has a constructed area of 26,500 m2 and its production of Serrano ham reaches 30,000 pieces / week. Food safety, quality, total traceability.
